LeBron James says walking into game with son Bronny was ‘a moment I’ll never forget’

Unprecedented history was made in Los Angeles on Tuesday night when LeBron James and his son Bronny hit the NBA court together.

It was the first time in NBA history that a father-son duo were active NBA players at the same time, let alone on the same team.

Bronny, the No. 55 pick out of USC, entered the game for the first time with about four minutes left in the first half, with his father, who was entering his 22nd NBA season, at his side.

“That moment, being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together, it’s a moment I’ll never forget,” LeBron said. “No matter how old I get, no matter how much my memory fades as I get older or whatever, I’ll never forget that moment.”

It was a quick moment on the floor between these two, but cheers rained throughout the Crypto.com Arena as they made history on Tuesday night.

There was also a moment when LeBron threw a pass to Bronny for a 3-pointer, but his first shot in the NBA was over. A collective sigh from the crowd was the reaction as they waited breathlessly for the opening points of this duet.

Bronny grabbed a rebound in his three minutes on the floor.

“(I) tried not to focus on everything that was going on around me, and I tried to focus on coming in as a freshman and not trying to screw up,” Bronny said. “But yeah, I totally felt the energy, and I thank Laker Nation for showing their support for me and my dad.”

“I talked about it years and years ago, and for this moment, it’s pretty cool,” LeBron said. “I don’t know if it’s really going to affect both of us for a little minute, but when we actually get to sit down and take it in, it’s pretty crazy. … But for now, we still had a job to do when we signed up. We weren’t trying to make it a circus. We weren’t trying to make it about us. We wanted to talk about the team.”

Ken Griffey Mr. and Ken Griffey Jr., who were teammates with MLB’s Seattle Mariners, also attended.

It remains to be seen how long young Bronny will remain on the pro roster as he could certainly use some time in the G League. He averaged less than five points per game at USC, though his cardiac arrest the previous summer slowed his development.
