UVMMC postpones some elective surgeries due to IV fluid shortages

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – UVM Medical Center is among the hospitals now postponing some surgical procedures due to a nationwide shortage of IV fluid.

Hurricane Helene wiped out one of the nation’s largest IV fluid facilities, leading to the shortage.

The UVM Health Network said Wednesday they will now postpone certain elective surgeries to ensure supplies don’t run too low.

If your procedure is affected, you will hear from your provider.
