All of Donald Trump’s TV and Movie Cameos Before the US Presidential Election

The former president and current Republican presidential candidate is no stranger to being in front of the camera. Before entering politics, he appeared regularly in television shows and films, always playing himself and often referencing his personal wealth.

Technically, he’s an award-winning actor, having won three of the four Golden Raspberries he’s been nominated for. Trump was also the host and co-producer for 14 seasons of The Apprentice, a reality TV show where people competed for a contract to promote his real estate business.

A new biopic featuring Trump, titled The Apprentice, recently hit theaters. Sebastian Stan stars as a young Trump dressed in 1970s New York, working as a rent collector for his father while he dreams of opening a downtown hotel. Jeremy Strong is the Svengali-like lawyer who takes the would-be property tycoon under his wing and turns him into a successful businessman at any cost.

It was well received by critics, but Trump himself is not a fan of this portrayal. He called it a “disgusting hatchet job” on social media and asked his lawyers to send the producers a cease-and-desist letter after it premiered in Cannes.

Trump clearly just prefers Trump to play Trump. Here are just a few of the many movies and TV shows in which he had at least an initial role.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)

The year is 1992, and Donald Trump is beginning to infiltrate popular culture. After an appearance in the soap opera All My Children and the TV miniseries Lady Boss, he made his most famous cameo appearance in Home Alone 2.

The equally festive continuation of the film Home Alone saw Macaulay Culkin reprises his role as Kevin McCallister to continue his rampage at the Plaza Hotel in New York, which Trump owned at the time. Trump appears for a few seconds, giving Kevin directions to the lobby.

Director Chris Columbus claimed that Trump “harassed” him on set, insisting that his role be included as part of the deal for the hotel shoot. Trump says otherwise, of course. “I was really busy and I didn’t want to do it,” he claimed. “They were very nice, but most of all, persistent.”

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (1994)

For his next appearance, Trump appeared in an episode of Will Smith’s Nineties hit, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Accompanied by his second wife, Marla Maples, Trump shows up at the Banks home wanting to buy it, mistakenly assuming it was his childhood home.

For a two-minute appearance, he manages to cram in a lot of complimentary comments about Trump. The cast marvels at his supposed wealth, he offers to cut a deal, and Carlton swoons with excitement when she meets “The Donald”.

The Little Rascals (1994)

Trump actually had a character to sink his teeth into in The Little Rascals , though that probably helped the print. Cast as Waldo, the father of the insufferable rich kid, he receives a phone call from his son during a kids’ go-kart race. When Waldo promises to win, Trump tells him he’s “the best son money can buy.”

It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo, but the 90s brick cell phones steal the show.

Trump made an appearance on the sitcom The Nanny, starring Fran Drescher.

Drescher has since relayed a telling anecdote about the grades Trump gave the script. Speaking on Seth Rogan’s podcast, she said Trump’s team insisted the line “You millionaires know each other” be changed to reflect the businessman’s claim to billionaire status. A compromise was reached by calling Trump the less specific “millionaire”.

There’s a two-cell phone gag that Trump hands out with his index digit raised that has become one of his signature gestures.

Yes, Trump was indeed in it Sex and the City. Samantha is enjoying a smart cocktail after work in season two, episode eight (The Man, the Myth, the Viagra) when Trump shows up at a bar booth, checking by Kim Cattrall character and name left his office in (where else) Trump Tower.

“Samantha, a cosmopolitan, and Donald Trump,” Carrie’s voiceover trills. “You just don’t get more New York than that.”

The Plaza Hotel also gets a cameo at the end of the season as the venue for Big’s engagement party with Natasha.

By the dawn of the millennium, Trump had already divorced two wives and was dating Slovenian-American model Melania Knavs. It’s the former First Lady who appears alongside him in their Zoolander cameo, where they’re shown on a red carpet.

The scene was filmed at a real fashion awards show, with attendees asked to improvise lines about fictional male models. “Look, without Derek Zoolander, male modeling wouldn’t be what it is today,” Trump says.

Ben Stiller, who played Zoolander, reported this people have since asked him to tone down Trump’s appearance. “I’ve had people contact me and say, ‘You should edit Donald Trump from Zoolander,'” he said. “But at the end of the day, it was a time that existed and happened.”

Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock stars in this classic 1990s romantic comedy about a clueless billionaire and his frustrated assistant determined to quit. Grant has an entire conversation with Trump discussing Trump’s threats to steal his new assistant.

However, the future president did not make much of an impression on the actor. “He always wanted to be in my business,” Grant said on the Graham Norton Show. “But the truth is, I don’t remember him very well.” Trump clearly remembered — he made Grant a member of his golf club, Trump National New York.

Trump’s on-screen appearance is also pretty weak, with actress Nicole Walker asking him for a job and hinting that she would sleep with him.

Trump’s ties to WWE go back to the eighties when the wrestling show was held at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. Trump starred in the 23rd annual WrestleMania, dubbed the “Battle of the Billionaires”, where he battled fellow businessman Vince McMahon via proxy wrestling. When Trump won, he had to shave McMahon’s head.

Trump has maintained his WWE ties since entering politics, with Hulk Hogan becoming one of the many celebrities who endorsed him as a candidate.
