John Mulaney Books Movie role with Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’o

John Mulaneyhis schedule is getting busier.

Just ahead of his highly anticipated sixth hosting gig this weekend at Saturday Night LiveSearchlight Pictures announced Friday that Everyone is in LA the host is set to star in the upcoming film Lunik Heist alongside Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’o.

Written and directed by Oscar nominee Kemp Powers (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, A night in Miami), Lunik Heist takes place during the Cold War, focusing on the US government’s plot to steal a Soviet spacecraft during a 1959 expedition to Mexico City.

Details about Mulaney’s role in the film are being kept under wraps. Lunik Heist is based on an article by Jeff Maysh that was published in the MIT Technology Review. Maysh is executive producing the film, alongside producers Leto, Emma Ludbrook and Mark Johnson.

“We are so excited to bring together such an exceptional team,” Matthew Greenfield, president of Searchlight Pictures, said in a statement to TheWrap. “With the extraordinary talents of Jared, Lupita and John, led by the visionary Kemp, Lunik Heist it’s a wild, roller-coaster ride full of subterfuge and unlikely heroes.”

Mulaney, who just welcomed his second child with wife Olivia Munn, is keeping busy. After hosting SNL this weekend with the musical guest for the first time Chappell Roanhe is due to return to Broadway for five weeks, where he will play his friend and ex SNL colleague Simon Richhis new song All In: Comedy about love.

He is also in pre-production a new live weekly talk show for Netflix and it’s due guest star in Season 2 of Peacock Poker face (adherence Ego Nwodim and Please do not destroyhis Ben Marshall).

Mulaney turns to SNL this Saturday, November 2nd at 11:30pm ET/8:30pm PT on NBC and Peacock.
