INDIANA – The Election Protection Hotline is open and ready to help voters throughout the 2024 election season.

Ami Gandhi, Director of Strategic Initiatives for Chicago Lawyers Committee for Civil Rightssaid it is available from 9am to 9pm on weekdays and 10am to 6pm on weekends. Gandhi noted that the hotline will extend its hours on Election Day, November 5, to ensure that voters can receive timely assistance.

“The hotline is fielding calls from voters across the country, including voters in Indiana, as we speak,” Gandhi explained. “The Election Protection hotline is available to answer calls from voters live.”

Staffed by dedicated legal volunteers, she emphasized that the hotline provides guidance on a wide range of voting topics, including locating polling places, navigating absentee voting rules and understanding identification requirements. Volunteers are trained to resolve issues as they arise and, when necessary, advocate on behalf of constituents who may face additional obstacles.

The Chicago Bar Committee partners with organizations like Common Cause Indiana to provide full support to voters across the state. Gandhi noted this year the hotline has also expanded to include in-person assistance in Fort Wayne, where legal volunteers will provide support on Election Day, including addressing potential intimidation issues and helping people exercise their right to vote without interferences.

“People might not have thought they had a question until they started visiting the polling station or voting,” Gandhi observed. “Sometimes people call us from the polling station or afterwards to report their experiences or ask a follow-up question.”

She added that calls to the hotline reveal both excitement and anxiety among voters eager to make their voices heard. Remaining strictly non-partisan, the hotline provides unbiased and real support to ensure all voters feel better informed and empowered to participate.
