The victim of an attempted carjacking in Flowood is speaking out

FLOWOOD, Miss. (WLBT) – Nicole Odom vividly remembers Wednesday’s attempted carjacking.

Flowood Police responded to the intersection of Lakeland Drive and Treetops Boulevard in reference to a disturbance.

Police say the suspect, later identified as Elias Chox-Chay, ran from them to Odom’s car at Applebee’s and then attempted to carjack it.

Odom stated, “And I said, ‘Oh, **** no, not today.’ I got my car and put it behind the wheel and I said, “No, no,” I started turning the wheel. I said, “No, no, I’m not going to be a part of it.” I start to take off. And she jumped on my car, climbed into the passenger door, opened it, and then I shot her. I didn’t know what else to do. I shot him. And then I went to the left, and when I went to the left, his *** was thrown to the ground.”

Luckily, cops say she wasn’t able to get into her car. He was thrown from the car, seriously injured after hitting the pavement.

“And then I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ So when his head got hit and I saw he wasn’t moving, I didn’t know what else to do. I turned around and then parked in front of it and waited for the cops to get here.

Odom gave some advice on what you can do to try to prevent this from happening.

“I happened to be lucky. I mean, this guy didn’t have a gun. Thank God, if he actually had a gun, then, you know, it would probably be a different story. The only thing I can say is, you know, just be aware of your surroundings.”

WLBT has reached out to Flowood Police for an update on the investigation.

They said that after the suspect recovers from his injuries, he will be transferred to police custody.
