Protest rally against the result of the parliamentary elections in Tbilisi – World

TBILISI, November 2. /TASS/. The thin protest rally against the result of the October 26 parliamentary elections ended in the center of Tbilisi, a TASS correspondent reported.

Several activists gathered in front of the parliamentary building on Saturday evening. Although the action involved very few people, several police units were deployed at the scene. The protest was peaceful.

The opposition parties did not participate in the rally. They plan to hold a protest near the Parliament building on November 4 and announce their future plans.

Georgia held parliamentary elections on October 26, with 18 parties participating, including the ruling party Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia, which has been in power for 12 years. During these elections, electronic ballot boxes were used for the first time. The ruling party won 53.93% of the vote, allowing Georgia Dream to form an independent government. In addition, the Coalition for Change (11%), the National Unity Movement (10.16%), the Strong Georgia Coalition (8.8%) and the Gakharia Party for Georgia (7.76%) also won seats in parliament, while other parties. it failed to cross the electoral threshold of five percent.

President Zourabichvili and all opposition parties refuse to recognize the results of the elections, calling them rigged.
