Record weather, no tricks, just a treat

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) – Today’s record breaking weather wasn’t a trick, it was just a treat.

The annual New Haven trunk was held tonight at Southern Connecticut State University.

But this year, there are no big, bulky coats to cover those suits, and no hoodies underneath.

Not necessary this year as it is still unseasonably warm. While the young ones are having a great time and taking advantage of these temperatures on the last day of October, they are not alone.

Rick Messina and his foursome jokingly refer to themselves as BGA, the Bad Golfers Association.

“You’ve just seen me take one of the best shots I’ve ever taken, so I appreciate you guys,” Rick told Channel 3.

Rick enjoyed the day with his friends at Alling Memorial Golf Club in New Haven.

“It’s going to be 80 degrees. Super! We’ll take it,” said Steve Heltke, East Haven.

“It’s an amazing day to play golf, life is good,” added Rick.

Not only do CT residents pull out the golf clubs on Halloween, but also the short sleeves and shorts out of their closets.

“I like it. If I wasn’t here, I probably would have been at the beach today,” said Frank Giannota, North Branford.

From the sand trap at Silver Sands State Park in Milford, others have had this idea, too.

“I said, ‘Mom, what are you doing on Thursday?’ let’s go down, pack a little snack and go to the beach,’” said Katie Kinney, Beacon Falls. “I have to take advantage of it, it’s beautiful. The days are numbered before the cold weather, so you have to get out here and enjoy it, enjoy the beach.”

Katie said another thing she was looking forward to tonight was being able to take her little ones trick or treating during this time.
