2025 NFL Draft: Day 2 wide receiver options they could target

2025 NFL Draft: Day 2 wide receiver options they could target

Unless the Detroit Lions make a trade – wink, wink — involving draft capital, targeting a wide receiver could be on their radar for next year’s draft.

As of now, the Lions own their own first-, second-, fourth-, fifth-, and seventh-round picks. They also have the Buccaneers’ sixth-round pick from the Carlton Davis trade and the Cowboys’ seventh-round pick from the draft-day trade to move up and get Terrion Arnold.

With the unpredictability surrounding Jameson Williams’ availability at any time and Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson not getting any younger, the Lions could look to add another target for quarterback Jared Goff in next year’s draft.

Assuming the Lions prioritize defense in the first round, their offensive addition could come in the second round or later.

Here’s a look at three wide receivers the Lions could have on their radar this week in college football:

Tre Harris, senior, Ole Miss

On Oct. 12 vs. LSU: Seven receptions, 102 yards, one touchdown

This week: Oklahoma vs. Ole Miss, Noon ET, ESPN

This week, Harris leads the nation with 987 receiving yards and has six touchdowns. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound receiver has five games this season with at least 100 receiving yards and three games with more than 170. Harris is projected as a second-round pick in next year’s draft. While Tim Patrick is currently producing for the Lions, he will turn 31 in November. The Lions could look to add a younger, physical, bigger receiver with Harris’ talent if he’s available.

Evan Stewart, junior, Oregon

Last week vs. Purdue: Four receptions, 96 yards

This week: Illinois vs. Oregon, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS

Stewart has recently slipped into mock drafts. However, at his best — like his game against Ohio State — he can be a dangerous weapon. He is an exceptional route runner with great hands, lightning speed to create separation and athleticism to make circus catches.

Outside of his standout games against Purdue, Ohio State and Boise State, he’s been relatively quiet with just 70 receiving yards in the other four games. But he has proven he can come up in the big games and is someone to watch.

Jalen Royals, senior, Utah State

Last week vs. New Mexico: 11 receptions, 188 yards, one touchdown

This week: Utah State vs. Wyoming, 7 p.m. ET, CBSSN

The unfortunate fact that Utah State is struggling could work in the Lions’ favor if the elusive Royals are on the radar. After a slow start to the season, he has averaged 167 receiving yards per game over his last four outings. The Royals combine speed and ball skills that make him a threat for defenses. Catches through the middle or with the toes on the edge, it is versatile and effective.

His performance last week against New Mexico should boost his stock, making him a potential Day 2 selection and a steal for the Lions. His route running and ability to create separation could be a storming addition to Detroit’s offense.
