Karnataka: CCTV footage brings kidnappers of businessman’s children into police net

Two children of a businessman were allegedly abducted by two men from their home in Athani town of Belagavi district in Karnataka. Surveillance footage showed two men entering the home and fleeing with a 4-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy.

However, both the children were rescued safely and returned to their parents, with the three suspects arrested, according to a PTI report.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon, after the two children had just returned from school and were playing in the living room of the house. At that time, only their grandmother was home. The third man was waiting in the car a few meters away from the house. The two men pushed the children inside the vehicle and sped away.

Police were able to trace the suspect’s trail using CCTV footage and technical surveillance. They immediately alerted their counterparts in neighboring districts as well, according to PTI.

“With the help of technical surveillance, the police team traced the vehicle in which the abducted children were taken by the accused and intercepted the vehicle near Kohalli in Belagavi district around 4:25 am on Friday,” a senior official told PTI police official. . He also added that the children were rescued safely and that they suffered no injuries.

According to the report, while being questioned, one of the accused revealed that he had invested in a trading platform of the businessman and suffered heavy losses. After the businessman refused to pay 1 million lei, the suspect decided to kidnap the children.
