Armed Braintree bank robbery lands naked man in police custody

Braintree police arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery at the Eastern Bank at 703 Granite St., across from Braintree High School, Friday morning. Braintree Police Department.

An Eastern Bank employee at the branch reported the bank was robbed at gunpoint around 10:43 a.m., police said in a news release. The employee gave a description of the man, whose name has not been released, Police said witnesses told officers a suspect matching the description ran down Granite Street and into the woods near 639 Granite St.

Braintree High School, which is across the street from the bank, was located blocking conditions as a precaution. The blockade has since been lifted.

Police said they set up a perimeter and used K9s and aerial resources to assist in the search. Officers found and detained the man about 15 minutes later near the tree line on West Street.

Although not mentioned in the police statement, WCVB’s “Sky5.” was over the scene as the suspect was seen lying on the empty roadway and covered with a yellow sheet as he was taken into custody.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and the man may face charges.
