Paul Hurst tackles Shrewsbury’s disallowed goal

Tom Bloxham crashed the ball into the back of the net a minute from time to earn what he thought was a point for his Shrewsbury side on the road.

But referee Scott Simpson approached his linesman and ruled out the goal for offside, penalizing John Marquis for being in the line of sight of Rovers goalkeeper Josh Griffiths.

And Hurst believes his side are not having much luck when it comes to decisions going against them.

“I think John (Marquis) is offside because he’s in an offside position,” the coach said.

“But I’m probably in the same position as a lot of people. I don’t understand the rules anymore.

“I saw a goal for Man City at the weekend. My view is that the goal should stand otherwise I think all you’re going to do is get teams close to the keeper and everything what they’ll do is run out, say it’s out of the game.

“That was my personal opinion. John is maybe 10 meters away, I can’t see and I’ve seen a photo that he’s not very close. The keeper almost apologized for not seeing him and not diving. It’s hard to take.

“Obviously that’s the way our luck is going at the moment, and I’ve talked about luck, and people don’t want to believe it. I think we’ve had a couple of recent examples where it’s gone against us.

“Is it even luck or are the decisions going against us? So in terms of this incident, I think it’s extremely tough.”
