Harrison Ford reveals why he’s still acting

Harrison Ford has revealed why he’s still acting at 82, citing human connection and collaboration.

Ford gained acclaim in the late 1970s when he landed a starring role as Han Solo in George Lucas’ original. Star Wars movie Since then, he has continuously reasserted his presence as a leading man, starring as Indiana Jones in the franchise of the same name and Rick Deckard in Blade Runner.

Decades after first breaking into the industry, Ford still adds to his mammoth filmography every year. He has reprized the roles of Han Solo and Indiana Jones several times, most recently in 2019. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and in 2023 Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Ford has also added a slew of new credits to his resume over the past decade or so, including romantic film credits. The era of Adaline and the animated sequel The Secret Life of Pets 2. More recently, he has entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an appearance in the upcoming captain america movie, A brave world.

The actor has also ventured more into television in recent years, starring in Paramount+’s 1923 and Apple TV+ shrinkage. While discussing the latter during a conversation with Vanity FairFord explained why he continues to act, sharing his love for the collaboration it brings him.

“Oh man, I’m getting out of essential human contact,” Ford explained, “I’ve been imagining myself with people who have great skill and experience . . .” shrinkagefor example, Ford works alongside American comedy staple Jason Segel and veteran television producer Bill Lawrence.

Ford has worked with several other impressive collaborators in his recent endeavors, including Helen Mirren 1923 and Denis Villeneuve and Ryan Gosling Blade Runner 2049. It’s easy to see why he’s still so motivated to continue working within the industry and to collaborate with the talented people out there. “These people are fun to work with,” enthused Ford.

Ford’s contributions to the industry, and to Disney in particular, were recently recognized with a Disney Legends Award. During his acceptance speech, Ford showed similar appreciation for his collaborators. “I love the life you’ve given me,” she shared, “I love the people I’ve had the opportunity to work with.”

The second season of shrinkage starts October 16, 2024 on Apple TV+.
