Burglary suspect arrested in ski mask, tracking devices found on victim’s car: Westlake Police Blotter

WESTLAKE, Ohio –

Attempted burglary, menacing: Laura Lane

A resident of Laura Lane at 10:50 pm on October 11th called the police department to report that a burglary was in progress at her home.

The woman heard someone trying to open the sliding door at the back of the house.

The police found a man wearing a ski mask in the yard. He ran from officers, but at least one officer fired a Taser and he was quickly arrested, according to a police department statement. Police also discovered that the man was using GPS devices on the woman’s vehicle to track her movements. They recovered two GPS trackers.

The victim and the suspect were distant acquaintances but not closely related. The 27-year-old was charged with attempted burglary and stalking. He was held on $50,000 bond and taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail. An order of protection was issued.

OVI: Crocker Road

Officers at 10:00 pm on October 17th responded to Crocker Road at Clemens Road after callers reported a driver lost control of their car, hit the curb and then crashed into a guardrail.

The driver, 33, of Cleveland, told officers he was coming from a bar and didn’t remember what happened.

Officers found him in possession of several grams of what appeared to be crack cocaine, a small ladder and a crack pipe, according to a news release from the police department.

An ambulance took him to UH Medical Center St. John. He was charged with driving a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to control. This was his fourth OVI of 2016, making the offense a felony, according to police. Additional charges may be filed when the case is presented to a county grand jury, according to the news release.

OVI Detroit Road

Officers arrested a 41-year-old Cleveland man after a Giant Eagle Market District employee called to report the man passed out in a car.

An employee attempted to deliver food to the car, which was parked at a food pick-up location, when the worker found the man unconscious with a bottle of tequila between his legs.

Officers woke the man up and arrested him for OVI, having an open container and driving under suspension. He refused a breathalyzer test, so Westlake police added another suspension to his record.

Officers also found he had several opaque “rocks” wrapped in brown paper with an unmarked yellow pill in clear plastic wrap, according to the news release.
