How to Make the Moment of Methane in the Indian Power Sector COP29

First, related to the lack of a reliable inventory of methane emissions and drawing inspiration from recent methane regulations in the United States and the European Union, India could implement comprehensive rules and standards for monitoring, measuring, reporting and reporting emissions at the level of sector, specific to methane. verification; leak detection and repair; burning intensity; and super-broadcast events. These regulations should emphasize evidence-based reporting and be results-focused rather than prescriptive. To support this, the government could work with the Clean Air and Climate Coalition through its recently launched Fossil Fuel Regulatory Program, which provides tailored assistance in building capacity, developing regulatory frameworks and ensuring compliance with existing policies.
