The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the FBI and other federal agencies have created a web page with the latest updates and information on cyber threats ahead of next week’s general election. The agencies provide statements regarding recent incidents in which foreign actors attempted to influence and interfere with the electoral process. The page also includes resources on distributed denial of service attacks, ransomware, and other cybersecurity topics.

John Riggi, AHA’s national advisor for cybersecurity and risk, said hostile foreign governments and intelligence services in Russia, Iran and China have aggressively sought to influence and disrupt the election process through social media and e-mail disinformation campaigns. phishing emails designed to gain access. critical and politically sensitive infrastructure organizations.
“This access can be used to steal and leak sensitive information or provide an avenue for the future delivery of malware and disruptive cyber operations,” Riggi said. “Foreign cybercriminal gangs may also use election-themed social engineering and phishing emails to target staff to click on malicious links or steal credentials. We are certainly in an environment of heightened cyber threats due to the upcoming elections, and as such we should remain especially vigilant for cyber threats and skeptical of inflammatory claims on social media aimed at disrupting our free and fair electoral process.” .
