US intelligence community says video of Haitian pretending to vote multiple times is Russian disinformation

A viral video purportedly showing a immigrant admitting that he and others had illegally voted for the vice president Kamala Harris it actually was Russian misinformation.

US intelligence officials have determined that Russian “actors of influence” are behind the video, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency announced Friday.

The video shows a man claiming he and others in the video are from Haiti, have been in the US for six months, have obtained citizenship and are now voting for Harris in several counties. He said in the video, “Yesterday, we voted in Gwinnett County, and today we’re voting in Fulton County,” adding, “We’ve got all our paperwork, our driver’s license. We invite all Haitians to come to America and bring families.”

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger called the video “obviously fake and part of a disinformation effort” and said it was “probably” a “product of Russian troll farms.”

ODNI, the FBI and CISA said they expect Russian disinformation operations to continue as Election Day approaches and could capitalize on any mistrust in the election results.

“This Russian activity is part of Moscow’s broader effort to raise unsubstantiated questions about the integrity of US elections and sow divisions among Americans, as detailed in previous ODNI updates,” their statement continued.

Previously, Russian disinformation actors were responsible for viral videos with false accusations of inappropriate behavior of the candidate for the position of vice president of the Democratic Party Kamala Harris and her running partner Governor Tim Walz (D-MN). In one instance, Walz was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, although the intelligence community quickly determined to be Russian disinformation.
