Putin calls for a two-state solution to help resolve the Palestinians’ “historic injustice.”

Vladimir Putin says that only the creation of an independent Palestinian state can help resolve the “historic injustice” towards his people.

The Russian president was speaking at a BRICS summit in Kazan, where he said the level of confrontation between Israel and Iran has put the Middle East “on the brink of full-scale war.”

“The key demand to restore peace and stability in the Palestinian territories is to carry out the two-state formula approved by the Security Council and the UN General Assembly,” he said, adding that this would help resolve “the historical injustice towards the Palestinian people”.

“Until this issue is resolved, it will not be possible to break the vicious circle of violence.”

For context: BRICS is an intergovernmental organization. It stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The informal grouping has expanded in recent years to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, while Saudi Arabia participates as a guest nation.

Its purpose is to bring together the world’s most important developing countries and challenge the political and economic power of the richest nations in North America and Western Europe.
