The search for missing paddleboarder Simon Daniels has ended in tragedy, with his body recovered from Dovestone Reservoir. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the conclusion of the extensive search operation which began on October 20 after two people got into difficulty while in the water.

Mr Daniels fell into the water at the popular Oldham beauty spot while paddleboarding with a woman on Sunday afternoon. The woman was rescued and treated for hypothermia and shock by paramedics, but the search for her companion continued.

Despite days of efforts by emergency services, GMP announced on Wednesday night that the body of the Cheshire personal trainer had been found. Dive teams had been searching the waters tirelessly since the incident and at 6.15pm the discovery was made, causing heartache for Mr Daniels’ relatives, who have been informed.

The death of Simon Daniels is not being treated as suspicious by police, who expressed their gratitude to the public for their assistance during this difficult period, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Detective Inspector Laura Crossley from Oldham CID said: “Throughout this tragic incident we have been in close contact with Simon’s family and will continue to offer our support as they come to terms with their loss. His death is not being dealt with as a suspect and the A report is being prepared for the corner,” reports Cheshire Live.

He added: “We appreciate the public’s support in allowing search teams to carry out their investigations, we understand the inconvenience this may have caused over the last few days, but it was important that we carried out a full and thorough search for Simon.”
