China driver covers new luxury car with tarp to stop water leak, sparks copycat trend

The owner of a Maybach luxury car has sparked an unlikely new ‘fashion’ trend after covering his water-leaking vehicle with a cheap tri-colour tarp.

The 31-year-old from east China’s Jiangsu province, surnamed Zhou, bought a new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 480 for 2.15 million yuan (US$304,000) at the dealer’s shop in the brand in the city of Suzhou on July 1st.

Two days later, Zhou discovered an abnormal sound coming from the car’s dashboard and water leaking when it rained.

Zhou took the car back for examination, but the technicians could not find the source of the problem.

The dealership staff suggested dismantling the car to solve the problem, but Zhou refused to believe that the company should not experiment with its new car.

However, after Zhou left the vehicle with the shop, the staff went ahead and dismantled the car without his permission.
