Sometimes greatness works fast.

Bruce Springsteen revealed in a new interview that one of his most popular songs, 1984’s “I’m on Fire.” Born in the USAit was also one of the songs he wrote the fastest.

In a Rolling Stone Interview with singer Zach Bryan, published on October 16, the two musicians discussed the upcoming album Bryan is working on and the decisions the 28-year-old would make about the songs. Bryan then asked Springsteen, 75, about “I’m On Fire.” He asked, “When it came to ‘I’m on Fire,’ the synth, was that first or was that what you were missing?”

The “Dancing in the Dark” singer explained, “This was literally a song I wrote in two minutes. I didn’t even think about it. I didn’t think it would ever come out on a record. And in the studio, I’m me playing the Johnny Cash Tennessee Three guitar. And then there’s the synthesizer, and there’s Max (Weinberg) playing the bass. I think that’s all there is to it.”

“There’s nothing on this record,” he continued. “I wrote it in two minutes. And if you go on iTunes now, it’s the #1 favorite song out of every song I’ve ever written. I wrote it in two minutes!”

“I’m on Fire” was the fourth of seven singles released Born in the USA Released in 1985, it reached number 6 on the Hot 100 and topped the charts in Ireland, Holland and Belgium. He was also boosted by his music video, which won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Male Video. The simple seven of Born in the USA. reached the Top 10 on the Hot 100 and the album itself reached No. 1 on the billboard 200. It is Springsteen’s best-selling album, and its songs, including “I’m on Fire,” remain favorites among fans of The Boss.

In July, Springsteen and Bryan released a duet together, “Sandpaper,” on Bryan’s album. The great American bar scene. They have also performed together at Bryan’s concerts.

“That’s right,” Springsteen said. The “Thunder Road” singer shared that his songwriting changed after he wrote “The River,” which was also the name of his 1980 album. “It was the first song where I wrote with kind of character, with a lot of detail, and then I said, ‘I really like writing like that.’ Where (the album) NebraskaI ended up writing all those songs full of details.” He also shared that during this time, he started listening to more music by Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, which affected his songwriting.

Springsteen’s life and career will once again be in the spotlight in the documentaryRoad Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Bandwhich will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on October 25. In the trailer, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer shared why he continues to release music and perform concerts around the world: “I plan to keep going until the wheels fall off, and as long as the public follows me, that’s my job “.
