Two KDF officers arrested for the murder of a university student
The suspects were arrested in Komarock and Tononoka area in Embakasi

Detectives have arrested two army officers in connection with the killing of Mercy Rufansi, 26 years old.

Mercy was reported missing from her parent’s house in Pipeline, Embakasi on September 28, 2024, hours after she left home with a noise.

His half-naked body it was found dumped in a bush in the Mwiki area along the Eastern Ring Road at around 4pm on 28 September.

DCI director Mohamed Amin said in a statement on Wednesday that soldiers based in Embakasi were the last individuals known to be in contact with Mercy.

“The search for her turned into a harrowing ordeal that culminated in the discovery of her lifeless body, partially stripped and with bruises on her thighs, lower back and left ankle,” said Amin .

The country’s top detective said officers found a black blouse, a blanket and a mobile phone next to her body.

He said the arrest of the suspects came after weeks of intense manhunt by Kasarani Sub-county detectives.

Amin said investigations established that on the night Mercy went missing, she was picked up in a Mazda vehicle by the main suspect who drove her to his home in Komarock.

“While in the parking lot, a misunderstanding occurred, leading to a confrontation in which the suspect assaulted Mercy, resulting in her death,” Amin said.

He said the suspect called his accomplice to help him dispose of the body.

“Following forensic leads, detectives brought the duo out of their hideouts at Komarock estate and Tononoka area in Embakasi respectively,” said Amin.

The suspects are being held at the Kasarani police station where they are being processed pending arraignment on Thursday, October 24.

Mercy was a student at the University of Nairobi and was there his second year at Campus Chiromo.

An autopsy determined he had broken legs, bruised gums and burned hands.

Her family said the night she disappeared, she received a phone call before leaving in a rage.

Witnesses described seeing a car at the site where her body was found.
