JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There is a housing crisis in America, and it includes a significant racial disparity in mortgage access, according to studies by a group called the Reinvestment Fund.

It is a mission-driven financial institution committed to making communities work for all people.

What is the difference in Jacksonville?

In Duval County, the mortgage denial rate for black applicants is 20%; while it is only 8.7% for white applicants. That’s a gap of 11.4%.

Emily Dowdall, president of policy solutions at the Reinvestment Fund, joined us on The Morning Show to talk about the systemic issues that go beyond income to create the mortgage income gap.

Dowdall also shared solutions and ways to close the gap.
