The demolition of the former Riverside Shopping Center in Shrewsbury has been underway for two months.

Work began with the demolition of the former doctor’s office on August 19, and workers turned their attention to the shopping center the following week.

In September, crews also removed two footbridges that linked the former Riverside Shopping Center to the multi-storey car park and to the former Pride Hill Shopping Centre.

The work is part of the wider Smithfield Riverside Regeneration Plan – an ambitious plan to revitalize the area between the River Severn, the Darwin Centre, Roushill and Raven Meadows.

Demolition of the entire centre, including the former Liquid/Diva nightclub, Somerfield, Wilko and Greggs, is expected to take around three months, meaning we’re already two-thirds of the way through the massive project.

A new river park is part of the revitalization plans for the space, as well as hotels, offices and leisure facilities.

The latest photographs have revealed that most of the old shopping center has now been reduced to rubble.
