BECE Results: A detailed guide on how to check your results

The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is an examination that qualifies students for admission to secondary and vocational schools in Ghana. Every year, students who have completed three years of high school take these exams. BECE results are published later and there is a system to access these results.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) releases BECE results every year. Once the results are released, students are placed in Senior High Schools (SHS) if they meet the admission criteria. Here’s everything you need to know about BECE results.

BECE results: everything you need to know

Both Ghanaian and non-Ghanaian candidates are eligible for the BECE selection process. BECE results are usually released after at least two months of students taking the exams. The results are released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

How to Check BECE Results Online

You need a phone or computer and reliable internet to use the online BECE result checker. Before you can complete the process, you need to get a WAEC Result Check Scratch Card from an accredited dealer in Ghana. Some of the authorized dealers are Ghana Post, Apex Bank and Lismic Consult Limited. Then follow the steps below.

  • Choose the BECE (School and Private) option. You will be redirected to the eResults checker.
  • Fill in your personal details on the page that appears on the screen. The details you need to enter are your index number, school, exam year, serial number and PIN. The serial number is located on the back of the scratch card.
  • Confirm you are not a robot and click send.
  • Wait for your WAEC BECE results to be displayed in the pop-up window. This may take a few seconds.

How to Check BECE Results on Phone Using USSD

You can check JHS BECE results through USSD on any mobile network. Follow the steps below to complete the process.

  • Dial the code to check your BECE results ie *899*550# (on any network).
  • Select BECE Results Checker.
  • Confirm the price and description, then choose option 1.
  • Authorize payment using Mobile Money.
  • Wait for your SMS verification card with instructions to check your results.
  • Follow the instructions given to view your results.

How to buy BECE result checker through MTN MoMo

MTN MoMo users have an alternative way to purchase their result checker. Follow the steps below if you are an MTN subscriber.

  • Dial *170# on your mobile phone.
  • Choose option 2 i.e. MoMo Pay & Pay Bill
  • Choose option 2 again, i.e. Pay Bill
  • Choose option 5 i.e. General Payment
  • Enter the payment code: FAST, followed by the amount, which is 25.
  • Enter your reference, which is BECE
  • Then approve the transaction
  • Wait for verification card and instructions to check your results via SMS.

NB: If you have been wondering how to check your BECE results on your phone without a scratch card, please follow the steps above if you are an MTN MoMo user. Alternatively, use the USSD code method described above from any network.

When will the BECE results be published?

The BECE 2024 results were released in October. Certificates of successful candidates are usually produced within one month of the publication of the results.

BECE is the primary examination to qualify students for admission to secondary and vocational schools in Ghana. Nigeria also offers BECE.

What is the best score in BECE?

The highest raw score a candidate can achieve in BECE is 600. This is the sum of perfect scores in a candidate’s three best core subjects and three best elective subjects.
