Motherhood Chaos: Mother wakes up to find a boy swapped for a girl

A mum got the shock of her life after her son was swapped for a girl in a maternity ward.

The shocking baby swapping scandal happened at Chipinge District Hospital. The incident, which occurred on September 21, has sparked outrage and calls for thorough investigations into the operation of the hospital.

Chipinge’s mother changed her son to a girl

Manica Post reported that Cynthia Masocha gave birth to a baby boy with the help of midwife Blessing Mutimbu, who confirmed the sex of the baby before recording the birth. Cynthia even nursed her newborn son that night. But the next morning, he was shocked to discover that his son had been replaced by a girl.

Chipinge District Medical Officer Dr Ozmore Matekenya confirmed:

I have heard about this issue but I can’t comment to you right now because I am attending a workshop in Mutare.

Police have launched an investigation and Deputy Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed that DNA tests will be carried out to determine the true paternity of the swapped baby.

Detectives are investigating the matter to find out what really happened,“, he said.

However, no arrests have been made yet.

Hospital records show that Ms Masocha was the only woman to give birth to a boy on September 21. Three women gave birth at the hospital that day, but the other two mothers had girls. This has led to suspicions of deliberate misconduct.

It is not the first time that Chipinge District Hospital has faced such a scandal. In 2018, a woman kidnapped a five-day-old baby from the hospital, posing as a Good Samaritan in front of the mother before snatching the child away in a desperate bid to save her marriage.

The baby swapping incident has left the Chipinge community in shock, with many wondering how such confusion could occur in a hospital setting. Authorities are under pressure to provide answers and bring those responsible to justice.
