Virginia house explodes as firefighters respond to gas leak

A house exploded in Haymarket, Virginia, Tuesday evening while firefighters were on the scene responding to a gas leak, according to the Prince William County Fire Department.

WJLA’s SkyTrak7 was on the scene. Watch below:

Firefighters responded to the 5900 block of Colby Hunt Court around 4:17 p.m. for a gas leak, officials said.

Around 5:36 p.m., firefighters notified the department that the house had exploded.

Firefighters had evacuated the home before the explosion, authorities said.

Initial reports indicate an underground contractor struck a natural gas line, officials said.

Authorities said it is currently unclear what caused the explosion.

No injuries have been reported. As of 6:50 p.m., authorities said crews were still at the scene to put out the fire.

The gas company was also on the scene to contain the leak, officials said.

Piedmont Vista Drive is closed between Harwood Hill Way and Sorrell Hunt Road, officials said.
