Florence Pugh reveals her take on Midsommar’s fiery finale

In recent years, director Ari Aster has presented scary movies, some of which are next to the best horror movies of all time. His second feature film, Midsummerhad vibes similar to Hereditary (his first film), as both offered twisted stories with characters consumed by the haunting worlds they entered. That’s true for Florence Pugh’s Dani, the star of Aster’s 2019 effort. The A24 filmThe protagonist now offers his own take on the film’s fiery ending.

He acknowledged the common belief that the character is having a “psychotic break” at this point, but went on to say that he believes there’s more to it:

So I have a different version than Ari, the director. The idea is that he has now gone through a psychotic break. From the moment she decides, I think accidentally, Christian, her boyfriend, to burn herself, she keeps waking up and going back to this like a psychotic breakdown and when that moment happens at the end, where everything is on fire, I Go trying to embody what it was like when I was five years old at Bonfire Night. And how exciting it was to see the flames, and I wanted to go back to a very, very small, simple life of how simple things were made and make children feel. Because at that point, I assumed it wasn’t there anymore.

It’s true that after Dani suffered the loss of her sister and parents to carbon monoxide poisoning, she felt lost. You could even tell through his interaction with Christian, who was in one a horrible toxic relationship with, that he could hardly comfort her when she needed it most. After the cult of Hårga comforted Dani with her tears, even if it was all in mimicry, she felt a sense of belonging there and didn’t know where to turn.

When you see that childlike smile on Dani’s face as she watches the temple burn, with her boyfriend inside, you might get the feeling that she is consumed in the Swedish cult and is no longer connected to reality. And, yes, you can argue that Dani is experiencing a psychotic breakdown, in which what seems disturbing to us seems beautiful in their eyes.

While I understand Florence Pugh’s interpretation, I lean more toward her Final performance by Ari Aster. The falling down The actress believes Dani didn’t know what she was doing by choosing Christian as the final sacrifice, feeling she was more distracted by the fire rather than doing anything “sinister”.

The Beau is scared The director said he was inspired to write the film after experiencing a breakup. He seems to believe in his “perverse, wish-fulfilling fantasy” that Dani was fully aware of what was happening to Christian after he was engulfed in flames in the temple. Regardless of how fans interpret the ending, I think most would agree that Florence Pugh is amazing in Ari Aster’s film.. Through his performance, he perfectly conveys that Dani viewers see at the end of the film is far removed from the person they met at the beginning of the film. Needless to say, this is one A24’s best horror moviesand both Pugh and Ari Aster deserve their flowers for putting in the work.
