First image of missing man at Dovestone Reservoir as major search continues | Liverpool Echo

The man, named locally as Simon Daniels, was reported missing after falling into the water during a paddling incident on Sunday.

A major search operation is underway for a second day to find a missing personal trainer who fell into Dovestone Reservoir.

The man, now publicly identified as Simon Daniels, a personal trainer from Winsford, Cheshire, was reported missing after falling into the water during a paddleboarding incident with a woman, believed to be his partner, Sunday afternoon (October 20).


Emergency services were alerted shortly before 2.30pm following reports of a man and a woman in the water. The woman was later rescued and treated for hypothermia and shock, it has been reported.

Search efforts continued throughout the night, with specialist police water rescue units and fire crews at the scene trying to locate Simon, who remains missing.


Emergency crews cordoned off all roads and paths in the surrounding area and launched a large-scale search operation involving firefighters, paramedics and police. Specialist divers could be seen searching the reservoir in boats while coastguard and mountain rescue teams were also present, the Manchester Evening News reports.

At around 7.35pm on Sunday night, Greater Manchester Police announced that underwater teams would continue to search the reservoir overnight. On Monday morning, a spokesman for the force confirmed there had been no updates to the search overnight.


Police have advised people to avoid the Dovestone Reservoir area, near Oldham, Greater Manchester, this morning. Specialist teams are ‘doing further assessments’ at the reservoir.

Social media was flooded with heartfelt messages. “Come on bro we are all praying for you,” read one message, while another expressed hope with: “Really hoping and praying for Simon Daniels. Please God don’t let this happen to such a lovely boy “.

An additional post reflects the town’s heavy heart: “Winsford is at a very heartbreaking standstill at the moment, hoping and praying for your safe return but also understanding that it may not be. But you have a town that wants so much for you. now with love and support.”

Greater Manchester Police provided an update on Monday according to their latest statement: “Officers attended Dovestone Reservoir until last night to search for a man who had gone into the water in the early afternoon” .

“Specialist teams will be making further assessments this morning as they continue their search, using all appropriate resources available. We ask people to avoid the area while this work is carried out and we appreciate the public’s continued patience.”
