Second man, 35, charged after alleged stabbing, shooting in Wagga Wagga

A second man has been arrested and charged following a stabbing and shooting near North Wagga Wagga last Thursday.

Officers from the Riverina Police District were called to Wilks Park at around 12.30pm on Thursday 10 October following reports of a shooting.

When police arrived at the scene, a 42-year-old man was allegedly stabbed with scissors by a 33-year-old man, who was allegedly shot by a 35-year-old man who fled the scene. arrested by the police on Saturday.

Police attended a hotel on the Sturt Highway, Gumly Gumly at about 12.30pm on Saturday where they were confronted by the 35-year-old man who refused to leave the room.

NSW Police entered the room and deployed a Taser to arrest the 35-year-old after he allegedly pulled out a knife.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for assessment.

“The man allegedly refused to leave the room and a police operation ensued, involving local police with the help of specialist police, including the Tactical Operations Unit and police negotiators NSW Police said in a statement.

After Thursday’s alleged stabbing, police found the 33-year-old man in the Murrumbidgee River near Wilks Park before he swam to an island and climbed a tree to avoid officers.

The 33-year-old man was found and arrested the next morning at around 2am on Friday 11 October and taken to hospital. He was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and remains in court.

On Sunday afternoon, the 35-year-old man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with shooting with intent to murder, possessing a shortened firearm (not a pistol) without authority, acquiring a weapon of prohibited firearm (subject to firearms prohibition order) , use an offensive weapon to avoid lawful arrest and breach bail.

The arrested man was refused bail and will appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today.
