Generation Z, millennials, are most dependent on AI for emotional needs, a survey reveals

A recent survey found that younger generations are increasingly relying on artificial intelligence (AI) for emotional support. The study by First Saturday Lime, a company known for its eco-friendly insect repellents, found that millennials and Gen Z rely more on AI for their emotional needs rather than seeking out supportive companions traditional like cats or dogs.

The survey findings revealed that 11% of millennial respondents and 10% of Gen Z respondents indicated that they prefer AI over pets. The survey was conducted with 1,000 Americans of different age groups and showed the change in the understanding of emotional support and how technology is playing a more crucial role in the lives of younger people, Moneycontrol reported.

The study further revealed that 18% of respondents who rely on AI for emotional support believe it is more effective than traditional pets. AI today plays an integral role in the daily lives of many, ranging from routine tasks to providing companionship, according to research.

According to a report by The New York Post, 23-year-old Alexander Zhadan revealed that he used AI platform ChatGPT to help sift through various Tinder profiles and eventually found a match that led to a serious relationship.

Another example is Megan Riehl, a bride from New York, who got AI help to design her wedding invitations and saved significant costs by opting for the DALL-E image generator instead of hiring a professional.

The report also noted that University of Texas researchers are working on developing a chatbot system to help new mothers with postpartum depression with the goal of understanding their specific emotional needs and providing personalized support.

However, these technological advances have not been able to diminish the charm of traditional support systems such as companion animals. The survey found that dogs are a particular favorite among Gen Z, who are 133% more likely to choose them over cats to manage stress and anxiety.
