Attendants at a GOIL filling station in Atimpoku, a community in the Eastern Region, appear to have found themselves in trouble after journalist Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah exposed what appears to be a scam to tamper with the fuel pump in the station

The reporter accused the attendants of tampering with the fuel pump so that the amount actually dispensed to customers is far less than what they paid for, despite the figure on the fuel dispenser.

To prove his claim, Okatakyie asked one of the attendees to pump 10 liters of fuel into a regulated container.

After dispensing the fuel, he examined the container and stated that the 10 liters should have filled it to some extent, but the amount dispensed was significantly less.

“If you buy 10 liters of fuel, this is where it should go. But look where the 10 liters of fuel shown on the dashboard went. Look at the amount of theft these people are committing.

“Look at the volume of fuel they are stealing… This is not even 5 litres. This means that the amount of fuel they are stealing is shocking. If you buy GH¢1,000 worth of fuel, they are actually giving you fuel worth less than GH¢500,” he said.
