The club has a long tradition of planting trees in city parks and schoolyards. In 1932, the club planted a bicentennial Washington elm in the schoolyard of what is now Avon Lake High School. The club has continued the tradition of planting trees in schoolyards and civic parks for the past 92 years, according to the club.

This year the club planted a swamp white oak (Quercus bicolor) which is a native tree and will grow to a height of over 100 feet. It will also provide food and habitat for small mammals and birds. Two chestnut oaks (Quercus prinus), also native trees, were also planted. Trees will provide food for animals and pollen for insects.

The aim of the Avon-on-the-Garden Club is to increase the tree cover in the city with trees that benefit the environment and are strong enough to live for many decades.
