A show jumping trainer who doused petrol and tried to burn down her ex-partner’s house in a terrifying crime spree after refusing to accept she wanted to end their relationship has been jailed.

Sarah Jones, 38, moved into Chris Cummings’ home with her two teenage daughters after the pair met at a horse show, where he was displaying his high-end horse box company.

The 37-year-old now says allowing them to share his £600,000 North Yorkshire country house was the worst decision of his life.

Because when Mr Cummings decided the spark had died after five years together, he refused to move out of her property.

He was eventually forced to call the police, changing the locks as she and her children left.

“I bought my property myself after my hard work to build my business, she had no claim to anything here,” the company owner said, the Mirror reports.

“But she refused to leave. I had no choice but to get the police involved and it was only then that she agreed she had to leave, and when she did the locks were changed.

“Sarah didn’t let it go and for six and nine months she did everything she could to make my life a misery.”

But over the next nine months, Cummings said Jones did everything he could to “make her life a misery.”

He broke into his farmhouse and bombarded him with threatening messages.

He also says he talked to his customers and spread false allegations about him and his business that he still hasn’t recovered from.

Cummings claimed the equestrian shop owner, who has recently renovated a former chemist shop in Bedale, North Yorkshire, even stole her vacuum cleaner and took over.

And in one terrifying incident he found Jones throwing petrol around his horsebox as he prevented it from setting fire to him.

Mr Cummings, who is originally from Turriff, Aberdeenshire, continued: “You can’t imagine the effect it has on your life when someone is determined to try and intimidate you and ruin your business. I lived in constant anxiety about what could i do next

He did not ask for the day he was to begin his trial by making death threats, threats to damage property and assault and battery. They are now in the archive.
