AMD Ryzen 9800X3D leak suggests a big jump in clock speed and a CPU that looks like Intel’s worst nightmare

A new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D leak gives us a tantalizing glimpse of some potentially major advances made by this next-generation CPU in terms of clock speeds for V-Cache 3D chips, where a large cache has been a factor considerable drag on the clock. frequency achieved.

That may not be the case anymore, at least not if a video of Bilibili posted on X by leaker HXL (highlighted by VideoCardz) is anything to go by, though as always we should be careful with leaks.

With that in mind, the clip (which is actually just a slideshow of screenshots) shows a purported Cinebench R23 result, which measures CPU rendering performance for single-threaded and multi-threaded performance . However, more than the result, what is really interesting here is that the clock speeds are shown.

We see that AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D has a base clock of 4.7GHz and reaches an all-core boost speed of 5.2GHz. Again, we have to stress that we can’t be sure if this is a genuine leak or not.

To give you some perspective, if we compare these clock speeds to its predecessor, the 7800X3D has a base clock of 4.2 GHz, so the 9800X3D is supposedly 500 MHz faster, and a turbo of the whole core around 4.8GHz, so we’re looking at a faster 400GHz for the newcomer X3D.

Pretty impressive, to say the least, and AMD seems to have solved their cache issues by delaying the clocks, finding a sweet spot between clock speeds and 3D V cache.

So we could be looking at some pretty crazy framerates for PC gaming here. Judging by the previously leaked Cinebench results for the 9800X3D, the chip will also be much better in terms of performance: it will handle multi-core computing tasks more capably, but will still be excellent for gaming. This is all in theory, of course.

Intel should be worried right now

In short, Intel might be sweating a bit right now, and a mainstream X3D offering like this could leave Team Blue’s new Arrow Lake silicon in the dust, at least as far as PC gamers are concerned.

Notably, Intel has already conceded defeat in the PC gaming arena by admitting that its Arrow Lake CPUs will be 5% slower than AMD’s 3D V-Cache Ryzen 7000 processors.

As Wccftech reports, during a question-and-answer session, Intel’s vice president and general manager of technical marketing, Robert Hallock, stated that: “We showed some data about the 7950X3D. From my understanding of the performance, that part it’s within a couple of percentages, so I think we’re going to be back around 5% compared to X3D, which feels pretty good considering we only have the cache that’s built into the CPU and the big product CPI, so you’re going to see a 5% shortfall, I want to be clear.”

And that’s the scenario against AMD’s current-gen V-Cache 3D, so as long as this leak is correct, it looks like Intel is in real trouble when it comes to the 9800X3D, a CPU that could be arriving soon.
