Guardians Skipper reacts to unlikely ALDS Game 4 win

Guardians Skipper reacts to unlikely ALDS Game 4 win

Thursday may have been the last game of the season for the Cleveland Guardians, but it’s not over yet!

The Guardians avoided elimination Thursday night when they defeated the Detroit Tigers in Game 4, tying the ALDS at two games apiece. Now, the two teams will play the fifth game on Saturday night with the winner.

There was some criticism of the way Stephen Vogt handled Game 3 of the series, but he made all the right moves in Game 4, especially with the decision to pinch hitter David Fry who hit what would be the game-winning home run.

Here’s what Cleveland’s skipper had to say after the game about dealing with the pressure, knowing Thursday could have been the last game of the season.

“I think the pressure comes from yourself,” Vogt said. “It’s the pressure you put on yourself. The outside is just noise. It’s about what you tell yourself, the narrative you tell yourself every game, and for us, that’s who we are. These been all year long.”

“We’ve been at our best when we’ve got nothing to lose. For us it’s about going out, having fun tonight, enjoying playing playoff baseball, playing carefree, playing loose, going to be yourself. This has been rhetoric all year and will continue to be tonight.”

Saturday will be a situation where the Guardians win and their season continues, or they lose and head home. If they keep that same mindset going into Game 4, they’ll be in a good place mentally for this game.
