Philadelphia officials reject Trump’s claims of cheating

Philadelphia officials have strongly denied the allegations made by the former president Donald Trump that “massive fraud” was taking place in the city on election day.

On Tuesday at 4:39 PM ET — in the final hours of voting on the East Coast — Trump POSTED on his Truth Social account:

There is a lot of talk about massive CHEATING in Philadelphia. The lawmen are coming!!!

CNN Kate Bolduan reported live from a precinct in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, Tuesday night, a suburb northeast of Philadelphia, and shared with the anchor Erin Burnett how local officials responded to Trump’s accusations.

“The misinformation, the misinformation, has been rampant,” Bolduan said, “and it’s been something that officials in Pennsylvania have been trying to combat before Election Day, to reassure people that this election here will be safe, just like am was in 2020.”

“Now they have to fight this from the top,” she continued, reading Trump’s Truth Social post.

She then read a statement from Seth Bluesteina Republican on the Philadelphia City Commission and one of three members of the city’s Board of Elections. “There is absolutely no truth to this allegation,” Bolduan was quoted as saying. “It’s another example of disinformation. Voting in Philadelphia was safe and secure. He goes on to say that I have been in regular contact with the RNC. We have been responsive to every report of ballot irregularities to ensure Philadelphians can vote safely.”

Bolduan added that another CNN colleague spoke to the Philadelphia Police Department and they confirmed they “don’t know” what Trump was talking about.

“This is the reality of Philadelphia, what they are — the count continues,” Bolduan said. “They keep their heads down and keep doing their jobs, but now they have to fight this — on Election Day from Donald Trump.”

UPDATE: Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner posted two tweets responding to Trump’s “baseless accusation of cheating in the Philly general election.”

“The only talk of massive cheating came from one of the candidates, Donald J. Trump. There is no factual basis within law enforcement to support this wild claim,” Krasner wrote. “I invited complaints and accusations of impropriety all day long. If Donald J. Trump has facts to back up his wild accusations, we want them now. Right now. We’re not holding our breath.”
