Election Day Bomb Threats Target 4 Arizona Polling Precincts

PHOENIX — Bomb threats on Election Day caused confusion for Arizona voters, according to Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes.

“The threats were only about four specific locations in Navajo County,” Fontes said a YouTube video from 3 p.m.

The bomb threats were deemed not to be credible, he added.

“We have no reason to believe that any of our voters or any of our polling stations are in any kind of danger,” Fontes said.

Who is behind the election day bomb threats?

Authorities believe the threats originated from a research attack outside the United States.

“This is coming from one of our foreign enemies, namely Russia,” Fontes said. “I suppose they were busy.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said the threats appear to come from Russian email domains.

Law enforcement authorities are working with federal agents to investigate the threats, Fontes said.

“We are aware that there have been threats not only in Arizona, but also in Georgia, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin,” Fontes said.

However, the election day bomb threats are a hiccup in an otherwise smooth day, he added.

“By all accounts, Election Day is going very well across most of the state,” Fontes said. “We have some minor issues… and some issues we’re going through right now.”
