It’s election day 2024! Get the latest news and results

It’s Election Day 2024. Lines at the polls are expected to be long and 170,806 Knox County voters they have already voted for early and absentee voting starting October 31.

The entire country is holding its breath on the outcome of the presidential election, and there are so many important down-ballot races in Tennessee. If you want more information about state and local races, see our voter guide to learn more about the candidates. If you are a Knoxville voter, be sure to study the referendum on the back of your ballot.

We’ll be updating this blog throughout the day with what you need to know about how to get to the polls and bring you analysis of local races as the night unfolds.

What time are the polls open?

Emergency rooms are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you are in line at 8:00 p.m., when the polls close, you still have the right to vote. Stand in line!

Where can I vote?

Unlike early voting, voters can only go to the designated polling place on election day. If you don’t know where it is, you can search for it here.

When will the results come?

Knox County Elections Administrator Chris Davis told Knox News local results should be out around 11 p.m. Long queues at polling stations, especially when the polls close at 8:00 p.m., could delay that time frame.

Results for different races will come at different times. Tennessee election officials expect early results for the US. Races for the Senate and the House of Representatives. The presidential total may take longer.

Doug Kufner, a spokesman for Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, told Knox News the data will begin rolling in just after 8 p.m.

“We expect unofficial results for all races to begin appearing shortly thereafter,” he said in an email.

This is in contrast to the all-important swing states.

Voter support is available

Voters can get nonpartisan support on Election Day at the Knoxville Civic TN Election Center located at the Shora Foundation, 2425 Martin Luther King Jr Ave. of Knoxville from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Volunteers will be on site and plan to visit high-traffic polling places.

The group provides information about polling places and voting rights, support for potential voting issues, access to legal resources, transportation assistance for voters, interpreter services for non-English speaking voters, and encouragement for those waiting in line.

American Muslim Advisory Council, Hi Lakeway, East Tennessee Hispanic Center, Turnout Coalition, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Tennessee Democracy Network, Organize Tennessee are working together on the effort as part of Civic TN, a non-partisan non-profit coalition.

Need help getting to the polls?

In addition to polling station transportation, some transportation providers step in to make sure transportation barriers don’t stop you from voting.

  • Knoxville Area Transit offers free bus passes all day.
  • Uber gets 50% off rides up to $10 at polling locations. To get this offer, users should click the “go vote” button. in the application. When riders enter their home address, Uber can locate the rider’s polling location and automatically add it as a destination.
  • Lyft is also offering 50% off Election Day rides, down to $10. Voters should use discount code VOTE24 to get the deal. The code can be applied to shared, bike or scooter rentals from 5am to 10pm on November 5.
  • Scooter and e-bike rentals will be free from Lime until Election Day with the code VOTE2024.
