These eight states are up to the Senate

Eight states are to decide the fate of which parties they control Senate for the next two years.

Republicans are little favourites to win the upper house, which has a one-seat Democratic majority. If the Democrats hold, the majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will continue in his time as leader, but the Republican caucus leader remains a mystery as longtime leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has announced that he will no longer seek the position.

Of the 34 Senate races in this election, here are the ten races to watch Election day:

Michigan

Rep. Elissa Slotkin and former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers are both running to fill the seat of retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI). Michigan The race for the Senate.

In the weeks leading up to the elections, POLLS they indicated that Slotkin is ahead of Rogers. Michigan is one of several “blue wall” states that both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump believe are “must win.”

mountain

Sen. Jon Tester’s (D-MT) time in the Senate may be coming to an end as he faces a Republican businessman Tim Sheehya retired Navy SEAL and first-time candidate, in the state Senate race. In the polarized political climate of 2024, it was difficult for Tester to hold on to his seat and urge people to vote for a Democrat in such a red state.

Tester tried to paint Sheehy, who moved to Montana in 2014 after leaving the military, as a wealthy out-of-state and a threat to Montanans’ access to public lands and abortion rights.

Sheehy was consistent POLL before Tester. Outside of the West Virginia Senate race, Montana is widely considered the Republicans’ best chance to flip a seat.

Nebraska

In NebraskaSenate race tighter than expected, Senator. Deb Fischer (R-NE) faces a strong challenge from independent candidate Dan Osborn.

nonpartisan Cook Political Report moved the Senate race from “solid Republican” to “probable Republican” in late September.

However, one Victoria Osborn might not be a total victory for the Democrats as he has repeatedly said he will not join any party.

Nevada

In Nevadathe incumbent senator. Jackie Rosen (D-NY) will face Republican Sam Brown in the state senate race. Rosen has consistently polled ahead of Trump here as Brown continues to exceed the former president’s vote share.

While Rosen appeared to be vulnerable early in the race, her seat appears more likely to be a Democratic hold as momentum for Brown has stalled.

Ohio

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is gearing up for what may be the toughest defense of a Senate seat this cycle other than Tester in Montana. In his fourth Senate bid, Brown faces Republican Bernie Moreno.

polls have consistently shown razor-thin margins in this race, with both Brown and Moreno consistently coming within the polls’ margin of error, suggesting the race is anyone’s to win.

Ohio, the state that voted twice for President Barack Obama, has moved to the right in recent years and now looks solid red in presidential races. Trump is polling ahead in the state, and political operatives believe a presidential victory could be enough to secure a Moreno win.

Pennsylvania

Senator with three mandates. Bob Casey (D-PA) will face Republican Dave McCormick Pennsylvaniathe race for the Senate. polls they generally indicated that Casey is ahead of McCormick.

Pennsylvania is the prize of all battle states this year for Harris or Trump because it has the most electoral votes, 19, of any swing state.

West Virginia

When the longtime Democratic senator became an independent. Joe Manchin (I-WV) announced its retirement this year, West VirginiaHis open senate seat seemed almost certain to go to a Republican. This is the governor. Jim Justice (R-WV) and Democrat Glenn Elliott will face off.

Justice was POLL double digits ahead of Elliott throughout this campaign. This race is considered to be the Republicans’ best chance to flip a Senate seat.

Wisconsin

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) will face a Republican businessman Eric Hovde in the state Senate race. Hovde ran for Senate in 2012, but did not advance to the primary.

Baldwin represented Wisconsin in both the House and Senate for over two decades combined. She has a history of making inroads with the rural and red parts of the state, having won the vote from the Wisconsin Farmers Bureau, marking the first time the group has endorsed a Democratic candidate for statewide office in 20 years.

According to the final Marquette University Law SurveyBaldwin has a 2-point lead over Hovde and leads Harris in the state by a narrow margin.

Democrats have painted Hovde as an out-of-touch Californian because of his California residency and strong business presence in Orange County. However, Hovde was born and raised in Wisconsin and his family the real estate company is well known in the state.
