Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris will face off in Washington for the state’s 12 electoral college votes. The liberal state voted for the Democratic candidate in the last two elections. Trump’s pitch to voters focused on the economy, immigration and crime. Harris, since taking over as Democratic standard-bearer after President Joe Biden stepped down, has argued he would usher in a new era and campaigned to improve the care economy, protect abortion rights and protect democracy. In 2020, Biden won Washington with 58% of the vote to Trump’s 39%. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won Washington with 54% to Trump’s 38%. Washington is considered a safe blue state, having voted for the Democratic nominee in every presidential election cycle since 1988.
