You’re probably thinking “did I miss the vote?”. No, polls have not yet opened in most parts of the US.

But things are a little different in the unincorporated community of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, just a 40-minute drive from Canada.

There are only six people living in the miniature community, but the early results statement might just detail the week we’re about to witness with both the Democrat and the current vice president. Kamala Harris and former Republican president Donald Trump bound

After all six registered voters cast their ballots shortly after midnight, Dixville Notch declared the first results of 2024 presidential elections – which has been a tradition for the community dating back to the 1960s.

It will be the only place that did for the next few hours, at least.

Every year, all of his eligible voters visit the now-vacant Balsams Hotel and, like polling stations across the country. UStheir votes remain anonymous.

The votes are then counted and the results announced – usually with more journalists in the room ready to break the news than the voters themselves.

Speaking of results TO CNN, townspeople Les Otten called the early statement: “A lesson in civics for the country.

“If we can help people come out and understand that voting is an important part of their right as an American citizen, maybe that’s the key to what we’re doing.”

He added: “As long as we are here and we are property landlords and we have, you know, our toothbrush in our bathrooms, we might as well exercise our right to vote.”

It’s the first time in a while that Dixville Notch voters are split, with the last two elections going toward the Democratic candidate.

In 2020, there were five unanimous votes for president Joe Biden and four years earlier Hilary Clinton won four of seven votes — two went to Trump, while one went to Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.

Otten revealed that he has been “a Republican since I was seven,” but opted against voting for Trump. Instead, he told the media that he cast his vote for Harris.

The 75-year-old said: “Nowhere in the pledge of allegiance does it say anything about your pledge of allegiance to a person.

“And I think at the end of the day, Trump has made it clear that we have to pledge allegiance to him and only he can fix that — and that’s about as undemocratic as I can get.”
