While they’ve already made two trades since last week, the Kansas City Chiefs may not be done before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.

Conformable Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Chiefs could enjoy another trade for a wide receiver if one “fell in their lap.” The Chiefs defensive coordinator also expressed his desire for general manager Brett Veach to get him a “young, fast” cornerback.

The Chiefs acquired veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans last week and followed up this week with a trade with the New England Patriots for pass rusher Josh Uche.

Despite being the back-to-back Super Bowl champions and the last undefeated team remaining this season at 7-0, the Chiefs were far from perfect.

Wide receiver has been a particularly big issue with both Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown lost for the season and Skyy Moore recently landing on injured reserve as well.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ play has suffered due to limited options he can trust in the passing game. He is trending toward the worst statistical season of his career by far, throwing for a league-high 1,651 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Mahomes’ numbers also left something to be desired last season, when he threw for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns and 14 picks, but he turned it on in the playoffs, led the Chiefs to another championship and was named Super Bowl MVP.

He might do it again this season, though the front office would be wise to surround him with as much talent as possible to do so.

Hopkins is a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team All-Pro and finished last season with 75 receptions for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns despite playing primarily with a rookie quarterback in Will Levis.

So far this season, Hopkins has just 17 catches for 202 yards and a score, and while he could turn things around with Mahomes at quarterback, it’s also fair to wonder if he’s hitting his career low.

If that’s the case, the Chiefs would benefit from adding another outfielder to go along with Hopkins, first-rounder Xavier Worthy and veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster when he returns from a hamstring injury.

Other than that, cornerback is a clear need for the Chiefs as well following the loss of Jaylen Watkins for the rest of the season with a broken foot.

KC still has a top corner in Trent McDuffie, but there are question marks elsewhere with Joshua Williams, Nazeeh Johnson and Keith Taylor in prominent roles.

Even so, the Chiefs rank fifth in the NFL in both total defense and scoring defense this season after ranking second in both categories last season.

Defense has been the strength of the Chiefs over the past two seasons, and while Spagnuolo has shown the ability to make do with what he has, giving him additional depth at cornerback would make Kansas City’s defense even more dangerous.
