As a result of the recent announcement of Derry The Youth and Community Workshop (DYCW) which received £497,969 from the National Lottery Community Fund for the ‘One Stop Shop’ – Socially Connected Youth Project, was visited by the Mayor and senior National Lottery representatives last Tuesday.

The new venture has been funded through the National Lottery Community Fund and is a five-year project.

Welcoming the follow-up visit on Tuesday, DYCW’s Declan Doherty said he, Sky Project staff and everyone at DYCW were delighted to see the Mayor and National Lottery staff supporting the new venture.

Visitors were given a tour of the building, then met with the young people who have enrolled in the program and also got an overview of how the project will progress during this period.

Rosemary McKinney, Youth Support Mentor, added: “It was great to see our Mayor take time out to visit the new Hub based in Society Street and speak to some of the young people. This project will give our 16-25 year olds a safe space to meet, take part in activities and improve their wellbeing.’

Fellow mentor Eleanor Conaghan paid tribute to senior National Lottery staff who also visited the project.

“The project was made possible by National Lottery funding and staff were delighted to host today’s event with the Mayor and representatives from the National Lottery.

“In addition to our two local Funding Officers, Lisa Boggs and Thomas Carlin, it was great for our young people to receive positive support from Gillian Irvine, Funding Manager at the Lottery, and Allison Fraser, Senior Head of Funding. We believe that this project will be successful and will be fully supported by the young people who will sign up for it.’

Thanking DYCW’s Declan Doherty, Sky Project staff and everyone at DYCW for inviting her, Mayor Lilian Seenoi-Barr paid tribute to the excellent work being done at the Derry Youth and Community Workshop.

“I was delighted to visit DYCW’s new premises in Society Street, which will enable them to deliver their key community service in the heart of the city.

“It was a great opportunity to learn more about the work they do to tackle social issues, improve communities and create opportunities for young people who find it harder to enter the workforce.
