Press conference on the decision of the grand jury in the case of Frank Tyson

On Saturday afternoon, Stark County District Attorney Kyle Stone will hold a press conference regarding the grand jury’s decision in the case involving the death of Frank Tyson.

On Friday, two Canton police officers were charged with third-degree felonies in connection with Tyson’s death, according to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.

2 Canton officers charged in Frank Tyson’s death

Beau Schoenegge and Camden Burch have been charged with reckless homicide, authorities said.

Tyson died on April 18 after being arrested by the two officers.

The interaction between Tyson and the police began when officers responded to a car accident. Police found a downed power pole and a car on the side of the road with an exploded airbag.

Witnesses told officers Tyson ran into the bar. Canton police body camera video shows police working with their hands as Tyson runs over a chair.

The video showed a struggle as police took Tyson to the floor, and seconds later, an officer put a knee on Tyson’s back.

Tyson told officers he couldn’t breathe seven times. It was seven minutes after Tyson was handcuffed before officers realized something was wrong.

Officers began performing chest compressions and administering Narcan. Tyson was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

In August, Tyson’s death was ruled a homicide.

According to the medical examiner, Tyson’s cause of death was “cardiorespiratory arrest in association with physical altercations and prone restraint.”

Other factors listed by the coroner included ischemic cardiovascular disease, acute cocaine and ethanol intoxication, and obesity.
