Perhaps the most memorable game in the series was a timer for the NCAAs. Future Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt and the Razorbacks outlasted the Rebels 58-56 in seven overtimes, which set the record for most overtimes in a college football game.

Eli Manning hit Jason Armstead for a 4-yard touchdown with 4:54 left that tied the game at 17-17. The teams traded punts for the first six overtimes, and starting in the third overtime, 2-point conversions had to be attempted after a touchdown.

Finally, in the seventh overtime, Mark Pierce scored a 1-yard touchdown and the Razorbacks converted a 2-point conversion on a pass from Matt Jones to Decori Birmingham. Manning connected with Armstead for the touchdown, but his pass to Doug Ziegler fell short and Arkansas held on for the win.
