Young Thug co-defendants’ plea deals updated as RICO trial drags on

REST two defendants in the YSL lawsuit have not yet accepted plea deals as the trial is expected to resume on Monday.

Deamonte Kendrick, aka Yak Gotti, and Shannon Stillwell, aka SB, are facing multiple charges related to racketeering conspiracy and participation in criminal street gang activity, along with drug and weapons violations.

Prosecutors say Kendrick and Stillwell were part of a gang called YSL.

They were initially judged with Young Thugwhose real name is Jeffery Williams and three others. All four took plea deals this week.

Williams was released from jail Thursday night after he was sentenced to time served and 15 years probation.

After Williams was convicted, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker spoke with prosecutors and the remaining defendants about the status of their plea deals.

The state asked Kendrick to plead guilty to conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and willful participation in street gang activities. They offered to reduce the charge of murder to voluntary manslaughter. Under the plea deal, the state would recommend that he be sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years of probation on all charges. He will serve the sentences concurrently.

The state would also agree not to prosecute Kendrick on the remaining charges he faced.

Stillwell received a sentence of 40 years in prison and 20 years of probation. The two murder charges he was facing would be reduced to voluntary manslaughter.

Both defendants face life sentences plus additional years in prison.

Kendrick and Stillwell have yet to accept offers from the state.

Whitaker talked about what will happen if they reject the plea deals.

“Obviously, each of you have the right to proceed with the lawsuit, you know what you’re doing, you all have very capable attorneys representing you who care very passionately about all of you personally and are making the best case for you,” Whitaker. said. “But ultimately it’s going to be up to the jury, and you never know what any jury is going to do.”

The state tried to withdraw the offers in court. Whitaker asked if defense attorneys had enough time to negotiate.

“Given that the State spent the entire day negotiating Mr. Williams’ plea, ultimately unsuccessfully, I do not know whether Mr. Weinstein or Mr. Schardt would have been able to negotiate with you today.”

Whitaker asked the state to keep the deal open a little longer. Prosecutors said they will consult with the Fulton County District Attorney Willis fans.

If Kendrick and Stillwell do not accept their plea deals, the trial is expected to resume Monday.
