Dearborn jewelry store targeted by masked men linked to nationwide robberies

DEARBORN, Mich. – The FBI is investigating a string of jewelry store robberies nationwide, including Mariam Jewelry in Dearborn.

The suspects appear to be wearing Halloween masks and carrying weapons.

Mariam Jewelry, a family business, was robbed by armed men on August 7.

Link to nationwide robberies

FBI Assistant Special Agent Christopher Hess said they believe this robbery is part of a larger trend.

“There is information and belief that this may be related to an armed robbery crew that has been involved in robberies in Illinois as well as Missouri,” Hess said.

The other robberies took place at jewelry stores in Bridgeview, Illinois, and Winchester, Missouri.

“It seems like their MO (Modus Operandi) is to wear, I would say, a Halloween-style mask,” Hess said.

Since the robbery at Mariam Jewelry in Dearborn, the store has added enhanced security measures, including bulletproof glass and an extra set of locked doors to exit and enter the building.

“They have to catch this network because it is dangerous for us and other people,” said Ali Alasadi, who works at Mariam Jewelry.
