Trump campaign makes demands amid Colorado secretary of state password leak

Trump campaign lawyers have he asked that colorado secretary of state Jena Griswold takes immediate action to secure the state election after online release of partial voting system passwords.

In a letter sent Wednesday to Griswold, attorneys said revealing the password violates state law and “undermines the integrity of our elections.” They demanded that Griswold immediately identify the counties affected by the security breach, notify them, direct them to stop processing mail-in ballots and prepare to rescan all ballots.

“We recognize that these steps may be an inconvenience to your office and the affected counties. But this inconvenience is necessary because it is the only way to guarantee that the election equipment in those counties whose current BIOS passwords have been disclosed by your office is secure and that the chain of custody for that equipment required by Colorado law and regulation is unbroken. ” said the letter from Scott Gessler, a Republican attorney with Gessler Blue LLC representing the Trump campaign. Gessler served as Secretary of State from 2011 to 2014.

The letter asked Griswold to confirm by 10 a.m. Thursday that “you will take these steps.” Secretary of State officials confirmed they had received the letter. They did not immediately respond to The Denver Post’s questions about whether they had taken the requested action.
