US Election 2024: Harris on Biden ‘Trash’ remark says she stands firm against voter criticism

Vice-President Kamala Harris on Wednesday he addressed the president Joe BidenHer recent remarks are “garbage,” affirming her commitment to representing all Americans, regardless of political affiliation, and clarifying her stance on voter criticism. Speaking to reporters on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews before boarding Air Force Two, Harris distanced herself from any perceived slights against Trump voters, emphasizing her longstanding inclusivity and dedication to serving the entire electorate.

“First, he clarified his comments. But let me be clear, I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” Harris said. “The work I do is to represent all people, whether they support me or not. And as president of the United States, I will be a president for all Americans, whether you vote for me or not.”

In his remarks, Harris emphasized his disagreement with any criticism based on voting intentions, saying, “I think the job I do is to represent all people, whether they support me or not. This is my responsibility and this is the type of work I have done my entire career. And I take it very seriously.”

Harris’ remarks follow a political backlash from a video call in which President Biden, in a conversation with the nonprofit group Voto Latino, referred to “garbage” in a comment that some Republican critics interpreted as targeting the base of Trump voters.

Biden’s comments have since fueled criticism of the GOP, with the former president Donald TrumpHis campaign team quickly claimed the president was disparaging Trump supporters.

White househowever, he offered a clarification, explaining that Biden was referring specifically comments made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffewho recently sparked controversy by calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of trash” during a Trump rally.

Biden’s clarification emphasized that he condemned divisive and offensive rhetoric rather than attacking a segment of the American electorate. The White House released a transcript of the remarks, noting a grammatical clarification that could have led to confusion because Biden he referred to the actions of “his supporters”, which some took to be “his supporters” in general.

The feeling is over BidenHis “garbage” comments continued to ripple across the political landscape, highlighting a stark difference between the current administration’s push for inclusion and Trump’s more confrontational approach. Harris, in his remarks, sought to reaffirm the administration’s commitment to unity, urging Americans to focus on common goals and aspirations.
